Why Science is a Great Career Path

Science-CareerA few days ago I was lucky enough to be in the situation where I was able to interview a few science enthusiasts. It really reminded me how diverse science careers are. All the people interviewed worked in completely different fields from oil companies to finance to even media industry showing how science plays an important role in pretty much everything.  What they all had in common was that they had begun their scientific career with completely different intentions to where they have ended up; a lot of this due to new scientific breakthroughs opening up doors and exciting opportunities for them.

We can see this development in our daily lives. Look back 10 years ago and Facebook didn’t exist, and around 10 years before that the world wide web couldn’t be found!  Science, and especially computer science, is constantly leaping forward and with it opening up worlds of opportunities for employment.

As young people you are probably looking to choose your future career. It often seems unbelievable when you are told you can

be anything you want to be”

by your overly keen parents and teachers. But I strongly believe this is true. Jobs like nano-medics and body part makers, and as far fetched as it seems- flying car engineers- could be some of the careers you land yourself in because you are passionate about science. As long as you are willing to leap with science from its strength to strength, you will succeed. Anything you can dream of can be a reality, and to be frank most of the greatest achievements have been ignited from dreams.

However, it is hard to daydream about these jobs because they just simply don’t exist right now. But I think this is what is so exciting about science as a career. It is one of those fascinating subjects that teach you a wide range of applicable skills which allows you to be highly sought after by employers in this modern decade.

Scientists are getting increasingly more attention from the public eye as their work and research become the nucleus of our society. So really I strongly recommend if you enjoy science to just go for it and indulge in it as much as you can. You never know where it will take you as a future career, and that is the true beauty of this only embryonic subject.
